ATW Brisbane Information

Brisbane is the capital of Queensland which is the home of 70% of Australia’s tourist destinations. It is located in the south east corner of the state at the estuary of the Brisbane River and fronts on to Moreton Bay. Just offshore lie the two sand islands that create a natural barrier between the city and the pacific ocean. Stradbroke Island and Moreton Island are home to magnificent beaches, pristine lakes and wonderful rainforests and both are only a short ferry ride away from the hustle and bustle of the busy city. Brisbane has an international airport and is easily accessed from almost any where in the world. The Sunshine Coast lies just to the north of Brisbane and the Gold Coast lies just to the south. These are both major tourist draw cards in Australia and are popular with both domestic and international holidaymakers. Brisbane is an ideal place to stay and use as a base to explore both of these fabulous regions. Brisbane is also the most important jumping off point to explore the Great Barrier Reef and the northern destinations of Cairns and the Whitsundays. The Whitsunday Islands are home to some of the country’s best island resorts and Cairns is famous as the best place from which to dive and explore the reef. Fraser Island is another extremely popular Queensland tourist icon that is also easy to access from Brisbane.

Brisbane accommodation caters for every requirement and need. The city area is home to a number of international hotels and resorts. There is also a large range of self catering apartment accommodation and close to the airport there is a wide range of motels and hotels catering to those who are in transit to other destinations. The city of Brisbane is located on the banks of the Brisbane River and there is plenty of accommodation within walking distance of the CBD and commanding fantastic river views. Southbank and Kangaroo Point are both popular destinations for this type of accommodation.

Brisbane tours are extensive and will take you on a huge range of experiences. The theme parks of the Gold Coast including Seaworld, Movieworld and Dreamworld are all readily available. Trips to Australia Zoo on the Sunshine Coast as well as tours of Fraser Island, Stradbroke and Moreton Islands can also be accessed from Brisbane. Brisbane is also the jumping off point for many organized tours that will take you on a journey of discovery through out Queensland. You can explore the reef or the Outback using Brisbane as a base.
